![]() ![]() It is not the first car I have kept past 100k miles.or 200k miles.or even 300k miles. It also strengthens my resolve to keep the 535dx as long as possible. Since whatever I own and drive absolutely HAS to be diesel powered, BMW not returning with diesel models means I won't be returning to BMW as a customer in the future. I own the car outright (from day one) and it won't be for sale anytime soon. My 2014 535dx is only at 126k miles and climbing. The diesel's 30% better fuel economy compared to the gassers comes as a bonus. While I like to drive spiritedly and drive my cars like I stole them, I care more about overall driveability under real world driving conditions than winning drag races. The better low end grunt from the diesel's torque is addictive and makes the car drive 100% better overall. I was glad to get back into my 535dx at the end of the day. ![]() I found the 530e to be a gutless heavy pig compared to the torque from my 535dx under similar traffic conditions on the same roads. I was very underwhelmed but not by cheap fit and finish issues or the car's road manners. ![]() Is something wrong with me? Anyone else feel the same?Ĭlick to expand.I had a similar experience with a 530e loaner car while my 2014 535dx was being serviced. I was thinking whether I could put up with the car for 4-5 years. When I first saw and sat in my 535d (my second BMW), I felt like the car was made for me. I know the G30 540i is a fast car, and maybe it is because I am used to my diesel torque, but I was less than impressed. On top of it all, the acceleration was underwhelming. The switches felt like they belonged on a cheap Kia. The steering wheel felt like it was vinyl wrapped. However, I was less than impressed with the interior comfort, fit and finish. ![]() The car I drove as a 2019 M-sport, with driver assistance, contour seats, gesture control, etc. Incidentally, I will be in the market for a new car within the next 6 months, so I was happy to get an extended test drive of the 540i. Ok, so I took my 2014 535d in for the EGR cooler recall, and they gave me a 2019 540i as a loaner. ![]()
